Gecekondus

   Gecekondus are shantytowns in Turkey thrown up over night (whence the Turkish term) on the edge of major cities. Many Kurdish immigrants were politicized here in the 1960s and 1970s. When they returned to the East, some of them became catalysts for various Kurdish movements, including the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
